Washington D.C. voters approved marijuana legalization in 2014 by a 70% margin, yet congressional interference has prevented D.C. from establishing a regulated retail cannabis market for over a decade. D.C. residents who pay federal taxes are denied the same self-governance that every state exercises on cannabis policy. Federal legalization would restore D.C.'s right to implement the will of its voters and end the congressional overreach that has blocked a legal market in the nation's capital.
